They definitely need to release or commission more exoansion packs. HALion does ship with a ton more content than Falcon, though, which only includes a 1GB Factory library of aynth patches. UVI's mass of first party content was icing on the cake. Even if you didnt mind the dongle, it was still a hard sell over Falcon in the sampler/synth workstation market due to feature disparities. That has generally been HALion 6's problem. more library content if one of the primary market niches (synth heads) for the product continued to ignore it because it was lacking in core synthesis features relative to competitors at the same or a similar price point. Regardless of whether you think it's enough, it wouldn't matter if they added e.g. People will gravitate towards the competitor and buy there, instead. No one is gonna want to build for the platform if the fundamentals are lacking, and if they do it won't matter if the same content on another platform is better. HALion needed FM and Spectral to compete with Falcon 2. There is Tracktion F.'em, alone with others (like Arturia) though it's nice to have everything under one roof and other Steinberg products can browse, tag and favorite those presets. ![]() Otherwise, those likely would have gotten the Absynth 5 treatment. If you use Cubase, Operator isn't a factor.įM8 has been out of development forever, and is only maintained because it's a native synth engine in the Maschine+ - just like O.G. Operator requies you to use Ableton, so that is only relevant there. The update cost for Absolute 5-6 was the same to go from H6 to H7, too. ![]() I just wish the main HALion library was updated to a more modern soundset and the interface was more scaleable - works great on my macbook but not tried it on my large 4k yet - I have a feeling it's going to be tiiiiiiiiny. So, it feels a bit sucky that we're having to pay for the new licensing in a way, but on the other hand i'm super happy. It just feels a lot nicer to use, to create modulations is a breeze now and I feel the urge to create my own libraries which I never had with H6. ![]() Giving it more attention than I ever gave HALion 6 in the past, where I tended to just use the libraries via Sonic. So, coming back with no dongle, silicon support, FM engine and new interface - I gotta say, i'm really loving it. I'm VERY pleased with it, wouldn't say it's generally worth the money or anything like that though.įor me it was more that I was unable to use HALion 6 on Mac Silicon, and even if i could I had to have a dongle hanging out.
